Scholarship to Honor Michael P. Wiggins, MD

The LCMS Executive Committee considered ways in which to honor Michael P. Wiggins, MD, Past President of LCMS.  The BOD felt it was important that any monies spent should represent both the needs of the current physician membership and also have been important to Dr. Wiggins. 

After a review of the finances, the following recommendations for a memorial for Dr. Wiggins were passed at the BOD meeting held on July 20th.

A scholarship fund, The Michael P. Wiggins Memorial Scholarship Fund, will be set up and will distribute $5,000 yearly for five years in memory of Dr. Wiggins. Criteria are:

1. The applicant must be a graduate of a Larimer County High School.

2. The applicant must be accepted to a medical school, either medical or osteopathic.

3. Applications must be received by July 1st of the year in which the funds will be distributed.

4. Payment will be made in August. 

The Executive Committee will screen the applicants for selection with a preference towards a primary care provider. An article about the scholarship will be published annually in the local newspapers and information concerning the scholarship will be put on the LCMS website and in the Honker. The first distribution will be in August, 2012.
